with the first quarter of the year over below is a previous post that can get you moving and sweating through the city. Gym passes sold separately.
My last post title was 6-Month Fitness Challenge; but it should have been titled One Year Fitness Challenge because I've been so m.i.a *sad face*. However during a years time, I joined a biggest loser challenge at my job. I was focused enough to become the overall winner and lost 27 lbs. and even more money!!! So this post came in handy in more ways than one because I used all these resources in my journey.
Overview, if it's still helpful (in respective ranked order of course):
Of them all, thee best FREE workout is: Culver City stairs
PROS:
- great parking
- intense workout
- variety (hills, stairs, trail)
CONS:
- crowded in the evening and on the weekend
Close second would be Runyon Canyon!!!
**Runyon has been temporarily closed for a few months so I suggest Eaton Canyon**
The best classes really depend of your personality. I like them all because I like discipline and group settings. I also love dancing so I'm partial to dance classes. Please also note, I chose to attend Romance and Dance instead of Allure because I'd never been to romance and dance and wanted to patronize. But my ranking would be:
1. Bikram Yoga
I swear by this place and went for two months straight!!! Look out for groupon deals often. Yoga in a 105 degree room takes discipline and focus but the results are phenomenal and you feel like a champion afterward.
They have locations everywhere; mainly beach cities: Hermosa, Manhattan, Marina, Pasadena, Downtown LA
2. Y.A.S Yoga and Spinning
They have monthly specials and pumping music. Sore the next day (no pain no gain)
3. Your Neighborhood Studio
Hip hop or strip hop classes and west African dance *thumbs up*
First classes are 50% off
4. Romance and Dance
New found respect for strippers with a full body workout in these pole dancing classes.
Kickboxing in BHCP-an absolute MUST TRY... Class starts at 7pm, but early arrival recommended
We meet on the second floor bridge, before you enter Macy's on the Northwest side of the mall
Hawthorne Community Center
I swear by the step-aerobics class, but they also have a good kickboxing and Zumba is ever-so popular.
Black Girls Run
Women of color are getting together and several locations throughout the city encourage healthy and active living as well as motivate each other with this running club. Visit there facebook page for various locations. Runners and walkers are welcome
Happy sweating
