LocoL (Watts): Roy Choi's latest restaurant

Ok, so I did it yall....I was finally able to visit Roy Choi's newest restaurant in Watts.  Boy was I delighted.  It's been 29 days (now one whole month) since it's opening.  We tried to go to the grand ceremony on MLK day but it was literally a line around the corner.  There were good vibes, a DJ and celebs that day which made it virtually impossible to get anything so we decided to try when the buzz died a smidgen.

We made the small journey on yesterday's rainy Wednesday in hopes that it was not overwhelming. It was not.

Nestled on the corner of 103rd and Grape St. and a block away from Watt's Coffeehouse you will find LocoL.  I am in awe by the whole idea behind LocoL because frankly, it is what Urban LAgance is all about.  So let me thank Roy and his partner Daniel for this urban jewel.  The concept is to provide, affordable, fresh, and healthy food to an under served area and I am here for it!

As soon as you walk in there is a fresh and cool vibe.  Recent and throwback tunes are bumping, staff greeting you and merch being sold at another counter on the side.  LocoL has a cool modern minimalism from the decor with block table and chairs and the signature black and white color scheme to the menus that includes chicken beef and veggie even to the disposable containers they are served in.  The price point is super fair for the fare (kee kee kee); the most expensive item on the menu is a bowl that comes with veggies, rice, your choice of meat and tons of flavor.   You order immediately to the left at an easy-to-use kiosk and you can see as  chefs whip up your order in the open kitchen.  No microwaves, no heat ovens, no fries, no super size.  Just pureness.

I order the tofu bowl $6 (yum-O), veggie nuggets $3 (a little less crunchy than I would've liked) and an apple lime agua fresca $1 (so good I had to order another).  But the iced coffee $1 was the breakout star for sure!!! I keep thinking about it.  I also tasted the fried chicken burger (bomb), the chili $4 (amay).  We ended up spending a whopping $23.  For 6 items that's not bad.

But here's the kicker; ROY HIMSELF WAS THERE!!  Like just chilling like a LocoL.  But then again, why wouldn't he.  I was freakin star struck I wasn't able to converse, or tell him about my blog!  But was able to snag a shot with him and got out about one sentence about my obsession.

I think it is a JEWEL and give them nothing but well wishes and success.  Thank you Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson for proving it can be done.  Hopefully this will trend.
Roy just received his hood pass.

Kudos
see ya soon LocoL
